We conduct Arc Flash Risk Audits/Assessments for our customers with support from Brady ID Technical Services teams.

What is Arc Flash Risk?

Arc flash (often called a flashover) is a type of electrical explosion or discharge that results from a connection through air to ground or another voltage phase in an electrical system. For example, when a wire makes contact with an earthed system. Temperatures at the source of an arc flash can reach 20,000 °C — around four times the surface of the sun.

Injuries can include external burns (i.e. severe burns to the skin), internal burns and intoxication from inhaling hot gasses and vaporised metal, hearing damage, eye damage and blindness from the ultraviolet light of the flash as well as many other devastating injuries.

Arc Flash Risk Assessment
Dedicating internal resources to complete your NFPA Arc Flash Risk Assessment can not only be time
consuming, but requires an investment in software and the Arc Flash knowledge behind the assessment.
One miscalculation can result in inaccurate PPE protection, non-compliance and even more time spent on rework. Our Electrical Engineer will complete your assessment, provide you with a detailed assessment report including your single line diagram and install the correct arc flash labels.
Our Arc Flash Risk Assessment is performed by a licensed Engineer using power system analysis software, providing you with the tools and resources for success. From performing the risk assessment and printing the proper arc flash labels, to collaboration with your stakeholders and a detailed assessment report, our engineers will enable you to not only reach compliance, but maintain compliance.

The Process:
• Brady engineers will hold a kick off meeting that will include team building with your internal
stakeholders and a facility tour
• Brady engineers will then collect and audit your arc flash data including identifying all electrical
equipment, documenting conductor lengths and ampacity, documenting overcurrent protection
device ratings and more
• Once all the data is collected, they will enter the information into the power system analysis
software creating an electrical system single-line diagram
• With all information in hand our engineer will create your risk assessment report and create the
corresponding arc flash labels

Frequently Asked Questions — Arc Flash & Electrical Safety Audits

Is an arc flash audit mandatory in India?

While India lacks a standalone mandatory standard, facilities above 240V are increasingly required to comply under IS 5216, Factory Act obligations, and international standards like NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584. Insurance underwriters and multinational parent companies routinely require NFPA 70E compliance documentation.

How long does a typical arc flash audit take?

A medium-sized plant with up to 50 panels requires 2–3 days on-site data collection, followed by 5–7 days for analysis and reporting. Larger facilities with multiple substations may take longer. We provide a project schedule during the initial scoping call.

What standards do you follow for arc flash studies?

We conduct studies per IEEE 1584 and align PPE recommendations with NFPA 70E Table 130.5. For Indian facilities, we cross-reference IS 5216 and provide labelling as per Brady ID standards.

What deliverables do we receive after the audit?

You receive: a Single Line Diagram, arc flash incident energy calculations per panel, PPE category labels, arc flash boundary markings, gap assessment against NFPA 70E, and a corrective action plan. Labels are print-ready for Brady ID label printers.

Do you supply arc flash PPE along with the audit?

Yes. As an authorized Honeywell Safety distributor, we supply complete arc flash PPE kits — flash suit, balaclava, face shield, insulated gloves, and voltage-rated tools — matched to the PPE category from your audit.
